Alpharetta at one point in time was merely farmland. Over the years it has blossomed. Alpharetta is connected to Atlanta by GA 400 and is located directly north of the city. It is now home to many high-tech companies including Lucent, Nortel, IBM, Sun Microsystems, AT&T, Siemens, Verizon, Alltel, E*Trade, and the headquarters of ChoicePoint. This area is known and sought after for the newness of neighborhoods, restaurants, and shopping. The area is heavily populated by families, many of which send their children to the excellent public schools.
