Created by legislative act in 1870, Douglas County and its county seat, Douglasville, were named for Senator Stephen Douglas. the presidential candicate remembered for confronting Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln-Douglas debates preceding the Civil War.

Just 15 minutes west of the city, Douglas County combines the luxuries of the big city with the friendly atmosphere of a small town. The county's natural beauty is accented by its amenities and urban convenience.
