Walton County was originally tribal land of the Creek and Cherokee Indians before it was organized by the state legislature as Georgia state in December of 1818. The county as then mostly populated by the Georgia Land lotteries, beginning with the 1820 Lottery, which gave standard 250-acre lots of the newly organized Walton County to participants.
Since then it has seen growth, prosperity, economic downturns and Civil War and is now one of the fastest growing counties in the state.
Now, Walton County boasts a population of more than 74,000. The county is located midway between Atlanta and the funky and eclectic home of the University of Georgia in Athens. The county's seat is Monroe, refurbished county courthouse that hasdrawn visitors and movie crews from all over the world.
Other cities in Walton include Loganville, on the fastest growing cities in the state, and Social Circle, which is known
throughout the region for its beautifully restored antebellum homes and a famous cornerstone of southern cuisine,
